Does anyone here have a talking caller ID? I just got one for christmas and I really like it. The one I got was from maxiaids, the only trouble I'm having with it is that it doesn't speak the name of the person calling along with the number, I did have a sighted friend over one day and they told me on the display it shhowed the name and number but when talking it only says the date/time and number.

Hello,
With most caller IDs they don't speak the name. There is one out there that you can record your own name for the number. So when a person calls you hear your voice say their name.

This is true. In most cases, you have to find the number you want in your call log and then record a name in your own voice that will be atached to that number. This is, at least, how our QWest caller ID unit works. I assume your caller ID box is a Classco, because those are the most accessible next to this QWest box. Some company sold a unit that used speech synthesis to read out hte name, but it was pulled off the market soon after its release. Not sure why. Perhaps the speech it used wasn't very easy to understand or such. Dunno.

my only problem with the one i have is the manual for ti came in print and maxi doesn't sell that one anymore. This one uses incoming calls on call waiting too, wish you could program ti so it is announced over the phone so if my brother's using it, it won't scare the hell out of me. lol.

i'd like to own one, but i'm with ntl as my phone provider and i live in england, and i've heard you have to register it with your phone company or something and that will get confusing. when i get my own house, i'll put one in.
